Apollo Beach

Getting to Apollo Beach

There are two Apollo Beaches in Florida. The Naturist Apollo Beach is on the North part of Canaveral National Seashore (CNS). Take I95 exit 249 (SR44) East into New Smyrna Beach. Follow it South when it becomes A1A. Follow A1A through the CNS ranger station (well, of course, pay the park fee first).

Keep driving South until you run out of road. When you are at the end of A1A, the parking lot on the left is Parking Area #5 of Apollo Beach.

Park in the designated parking areas only. There are 29 parking places at Lot 5 and there is a set of rest rooms at the beach entrance. If you find Lot 5 is full (and it usually is on weekend afternoons) you may be able to park in Lot 4 and walk or bike the 2 1/4 miles to lot 5 (sorry).

It is almost guaranteed that you will find a textile family or couple at the end of the dune cross-over straining their eyes Southward and nervously giggling in either anxious expectation or surprise. The Clothing Optional area officially begins about 100 yards South of the dune crossover. The naked area is close enough so that the curious onlookers can be assured that there ARE naked people there, but far enough so that they cannot really make out any of the details. Walking up behind these curious onlookers usually sends them scurrying back to the sanctity and safety of their cars.

We often wonder if these "surprised" families were as truly surprised as they pretend or if someone in their party really knew what they would find. And more-so, were the pretenders the parents or the Internet savvy kids?

The Beach

The Clothing Optional area continues South for well over 10 miles. If you ever venture that far you would eventually come upon naked people on the North end of the Playalinda Clothing Optional Beach Area. Apollo and Playalinda beach are really just one long Clothing Optional beach, with Apollo on the North and Playalinda on the South.

Naturist Accommodation Agreement in place since 2003

Apollo Beach is the only one of the three area nude beaches with a formal documented clothing optional designated area. In 2003 an agreement was reached between Naturist Action Committee and the Canaveral National Seashore to officially accommodate nude sunbathing at this designated area of Apollo Beach. There is a copy of the agreement in the History section. The Accommodation Agreement specifies an area beginning about 120 yards South of the Lot 5 beach entry ramp. PLEASE limit your clothing optional recreation to the beach area South of the invisible wall 120 yards South of the entry and ramp. Please cover up before trekking to the restroom or the parking lot.

Have an enjoyable visit, and PLEASE REMEMBER:

- Stay out of the dunes or you will be ticketed

- Park only in designated areas or your car will be ticketed

- Refrain from any behavior that could be interpreted as lewd or lascivious (sexual) or you will be arrested. Report abuses to the Rangers.

- Be respectful of the rangers so that we can maintain a courteous and cooperative atmosphere
